Steel Valley Wellness Group & SVSD Support

Supporting the Mental Health & Well-Being of Steel Valley Students
Steel Valley Wellness Group is proud to continue our partnership with the Steel Valley School District, supporting students and families through accessible, compassionate, school-based mental health services.
Since 2017, we have been grateful to collaborate with the district and its staff to help students develop the emotional, social, and coping skills they need to thrive, both in school and beyond.
School-Based Counseling for Students
Our school-based counseling program provides support to SAP (Student Assistance Program)-identified students across all grade levels. Services are designed to meet students where they are and may include:
- Individual school-based counseling
- Emotional regulation and coping-skills development
- Support with anxiety, stress, trauma, and other emotional concerns
- Social-skills development
- Support processing difficult experiences
- Building confidence and healthy relationships
- Collaboration with school staff and families when appropriate
Steel Valley Wellness Group accepts many commercial insurance plans as well as Medicaid, helping make counseling accessible to eligible students and families.
Your School-Based Wellness Team

Co-Founder, Steel Valley Wellness Group
Katie will be the clinical lead in the school-based counseling program and serve as a primary point of clinical leadership and collaboration with the district. She will also service students across all 3 schools.
Rosslin Watson, MS, LAPC
Rosslin will also be available to provide school-based counseling support to SAP-identified students in SVMS & SVHS.
NEW: TIER III SCHOOL-BASED SUPPORT
We are especially excited to announce our newest collaboration with the Steel Valley School District: an additional school-based therapist dedicated to supporting students receiving Tier III levels of support.
Through a grant secured by the district, Steel Valley Wellness Group will provide a dedicated therapist who can offer individual counseling and therapeutic groups for identified students, at no cost to their families.
Kiona Williams, MS, LAPC, NCC
Kiona will serve as the dedicated Tier III School-Based Therapist, working directly within Steel Valley Elementary, as well as supporting Steel Valley Middle & High Schools, to provide additional behavioral health support to students who may benefit from more intensive intervention.
Her role will include:
- Individual counseling
- Providing individualized therapeutic support to identified students.
- Therapeutic Groups
- Facilitating small groups focused on emotional regulation, coping skills, social-emotional development, relationships, and other identified student needs.
- School collaboration
- Working alongside school personnel to support students’ emotional and behavioral well-being.
- Family connection
- Helping connect students and families with appropriate resources and additional support when needed.
- No cost to families
One of the most exciting aspects of this new initiative is that services provided through this grant-funded Tier III position will be available at no cost to participating families.
This allows the district and Steel Valley Wellness Group to expand access to meaningful mental health support for students who need additional assistance, without creating an additional financial barrier for their families.
A Partnership Built on Community
Steel Valley Wellness Group is honored to continue growing alongside the Steel Valley School District.
For nearly a decade, our shared commitment has remained simple:
- Support the whole student
- Strengthen the family
- Build a healthier community
We are deeply grateful for the trust, collaboration, and partnership we have shared with the district since 2017, and we look forward to continuing this work together for years to come.
SVSD Student Assistance Program
What is the Student Assistance Program (SAP)?
The Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a team of faculty/staff and local mental health partners that collaborate with students and families to work together to assist students with issues that hinder their well-being and success in school. These issues can be academic, behavioral, attendance, or social/emotional in nature.
Parents and/or guardians, students, and staff can make a referral if they are concerned about a student. The team receives the referral, talks to the family, assigns a case manager and then collects information about the student and the potential issue. The team then works with the student and family to break down the obstacles that the child is facing.
Through the SAP process, the Steel Valley School District has many services available to assist students in breaking down these barriers. From school based mental health counseling with Steel Valley Wellness Group to non-therapeutic support services, support will be provided to the student. If you would like to learn more, please reach out to your school counselor.
